Curriculum
Before beginning the repair, it is important to understand exactly what you are replacing. In this lesson, you will examine the MacBook Pro display assembly used on A1706 and A1708 models, identify its main components, and learn how a complete display assembly differs from replacing only the LCD panel.
This overview will help you confirm that you have purchased the correct replacement part and prepare you for the removal and installation process covered later in the course.

The MacBook Pro display assembly is more than the LCD screen you see when using the computer. A complete replacement display assembly generally includes the display panel, aluminum rear housing, display cables, hinges, camera components, antennas and related internal wiring.
Replacing the complete display assembly is usually safer and more practical than attempting to separate and replace only the LCD panel. The display is manufactured as a tightly integrated unit. Separating its individual layers requires specialized equipment and carries a significant risk of damaging the replacement components.
A complete MacBook Pro display assembly may include:
The exact components included may vary between replacement-part suppliers. Always carefully review the product description and photographs before ordering a replacement display.
Before purchasing or installing a replacement display, turn the MacBook Pro over and locate the model number printed on the bottom case. Confirm whether the computer is an A1706 or A1708 model.
You should also verify the model year, EMC number, serial-number specifications, display color, compatible part numbers and the seller’s compatibility information. The A1706 and A1708 models may look similar, but differences in cables and internal components mean that replacement displays should never be selected based on appearance alone.
Before moving to the next lesson, make sure you can:
Do not begin disassembling the MacBook Pro until you have inspected the replacement display and confirmed that it is compatible with your specific computer.
Welcome to the MacBook Pro 13-Inch Display Replacement course. Before we touch a screw, it is important to understand exactly what we are replacing.
In this repair, we are not replacing only the glass. We are not replacing only the LCD panel. We are replacing the full display assembly.
The full display assembly includes the screen, the aluminum top lid, the hinge system, the display cables, the camera area, and the internal cable routing connected to the display.
This is an important distinction because the screen on these MacBook Pro models is not designed like an older, separate monitor panel that can be easily taken apart piece by piece. On these models, the display is extremely thin, tightly assembled, and fragile.
For most repair situations, replacing the entire display assembly is safer, cleaner, and more practical than trying to separate the LCD from the glass or rebuild the display layer by layer.
By the end of this course, you will understand how to safely open the MacBook, disconnect internal power, remove the display-related covers and cables, separate the old display assembly from the body, install the replacement display, and test the repair.
The key mindset for this repair is patience. This is not a repair to rush. The screws are tiny, the cables are delicate, and some connectors are easy to damage if lifted at the wrong angle.
As we move through the course, focus on control, organization, and careful movement. Every screw should be tracked. Every connector should be disconnected gently. Every cable should be routed back exactly where it belongs.
Full Display Assembly = screen, lid, hinges, cables, camera area, routing
In the next lesson, we will confirm the MacBook model so you know whether the repair steps match the device on your bench.
