Curriculum
The Zhiyun Smooth 5S AI and original Smooth 5S have similar names, but they are not the same product.
In this lesson, you will receive a quick overview of the most important differences and learn why confirming your exact model matters throughout the course.
The Smooth 5S AI supports a separate magnetic AI tracking module for supported subject tracking and gesture controls.
The original Smooth 5S relies on compatible application-based tracking and does not use the newer Smooth 5S AI tracking module.
The Smooth 5S AI is offered in black and has updated semi-transparent arm detailing.
The original Smooth 5S was offered in grey and white. Always confirm the printed model name on the product, packaging or documentation rather than relying only on colour or appearance.
Owning a Smooth 5S AI does not automatically mean that the magnetic AI tracker came with your package.
The tracker is included with certain packages, such as the Combo and Pro configurations, but not with the standard package. Package contents can also vary by seller or region.
Check your equipment and original purchase information before beginning tracker-specific lessons.
Many foundational lessons may still be useful, including balancing principles, gimbal movements, composition and general filming techniques.
However, hardware design, accessories, AI tracking procedures and some application workflows may differ.
Confirm whether you own the Smooth 5S AI or original Smooth 5S and determine whether your package includes the magnetic AI tracking module.
This course is specifically designed around the Zhiyun Smooth 5S AI.
When you are ready, continue to the next lesson.
Smooth 5S AI and Smooth 5S are similar names, but similarity is not proof that every control, accessory, specification, tutorial, or physical action transfers from one model to the other. This course uses Smooth 5S AI as the exact product identity.
Before following a tutorial, ask four questions. First, who published it? An official source, instructor test, retailer, and community post do not carry the same weight. Second, which exact model is named? Look for the full Smooth 5S AI name, not only the word Smooth or a similar product image.
Third, when was the information published and which version does it describe? App menus, firmware behaviour, compatibility, and package listings can change. Fourth, can the claim be reproduced on your documented setup without unsafe force or improvisation?
Keep model identity separate from package identity. Standard, Combo, and Pro describe bundles; they do not permit you to merge instructions from another gimbal model. Section 2 will compare package paths using verified sources.
A practical example is extension-rod confusion. The course demonstration unit has no integrated extension rod. This is a locked instructor-confirmed observation for this equipment. The course therefore does not teach extension-rod operation, and you should not pull or twist the handle because another listing appears to show that action.
When a source does not clearly name the Smooth 5S AI, treat it as a comparison lead, not an instruction. Verify the subject in current official Smooth 5S AI documentation or the supplied official guide before acting.
Use the Quick Start Guide’s identity check before each new tutorial or technical claim. Thirty seconds of verification can prevent a damaged device, false expectation, or hours of troubleshooting the wrong procedure.
