Curriculum
The Mastering Zhiyun Smooth 5S AI course will guide you from initial equipment setup to confident, creative smartphone filmmaking.
In this lesson, you will receive a quick overview of the knowledge and practical skills covered throughout the course.
During the course, you will learn how to:
The course combines video instruction with hands-on activities. You will be encouraged to practise each important procedure and review your results before moving forward.
Downloadable resources and the Course Practice Workbook will help you document your setup, complete exercises and track your progress.
By the end of the course, you should understand how the Smooth 5S AI system works and be able to apply its features to your own filming projects.
When you are ready, continue to the next lesson.
This course is organized as a progression. Each section gives you a capability that the next section can build on. You do not need to master everything today, but you should know where the course is taking you.
The first phase is orientation and safe foundations. You will identify the exact model and package, inspect the hardware, understand power and charging, mount the phone correctly, balance it, and learn what three-axis stabilization can and cannot do. These lessons prevent many avoidable setup and performance problems.
The second phase is direct control. You will learn the buttons, wheels, joystick, indicators, gimbal modes, orientation changes, standby behaviour, and operator technique. The aim is to move from guessing to making deliberate choices. You should be able to explain why you selected a mode and what movement you expect.
The third phase covers the AI tracker in depth. You will install it correctly, interpret its status, use supported gestures, choose framing, test tracking behaviour, and document real-world limits. You will also compare hardware AI tracking with app-based tracking so you can choose a method that fits the shoot.
The fourth phase covers software workflows. You will work with ZY Cami, StaCam, the native camera on iPhone or Android, and selected third-party recording workflows where they are relevant and verifiable. App interfaces can change, so the course teaches both current steps and the underlying decision.
The fifth phase adds scripted delivery and teleprompter production. You will learn mobile prompting with the gimbal, professional prompting and remote control, the Glide Gear TMP50 hardware path, and a dedicated production setup using documented instructor equipment. These are optional paths for students who need scripted video.
The final phases develop composition, exposure awareness, camera movement, B-roll, shot sequencing, creator workflows, calibration, firmware, troubleshooting, care, and a final mastery project. That project asks you to combine purposeful stabilization, movement, framing, and production decisions in a short finished film.
As you progress, record what you tested, which version you used, what succeeded, and what needs another attempt. The course is broad, but the workflow stays simple: learn one skill, test it, review the result, and keep evidence of what your setup can do.
